Launched 'ST1 Cargo and Cargo Refrigeration', an electric commercial vehicle platform specialized for logistics 'Improving customer satisfaction' by applying customized functions and designs for logistics and delivery tasks 2024/05 ![]() Hyundai Motor has launched 'Cargo' and 'Cargo Refrigeration', logistics-specific models of its new electric business platform 'ST1'. ST1 is a business platform based on the Chassis-Cab that can be optimized and expanded according to the purpose of use, and is a vehicle that fuses hardware and software. Hyundai plans to create new levels of customer business value with ST1, one of the first software-driven vehicles (SDVs). ST1 stands for ¡°Service Type1,¡± where ST stands for a business platform that can provide a variety of services and solutions, and the number 1 means it is the first model. ![]() Hyundai's strategy with ST1 is to provide devices that can reflect various specifications desired by customers and software that can maximize the efficiency of their business operations. This means that the ChassisCab model can be used to develop vehicles tailored to the customer's business, enabling them to create a variety of specialized models such as emergency vehicles and campers, as well as electric bike charging vehicles for new businesses, mobile smart farms, and pet care shops. The ChassisCab model is also equipped with Plug & Play technology. This allows customers to configure separate connectors inside and outside the ST1 to efficiently utilize vehicle power, communication data, etc. in specialized vehicles according to their business needs. In particular, Hyundai introduced the first data open API to ST1, enabling customers to provide and utilize a variety of useful vehicle data. As a result, real-time vehicle operation information such as vehicle location, speed, starting status, battery charge, etc. and vehicle operation analysis data can be delivered to the customer's system for efficient vehicle management. In addition, it is expected to improve business convenience by providing detailed vehicle data such as whether the hood and doors are open and whether the charging plug is connected, and enabling remote control of air conditioning and door locks. Increased safety and practicality for logistics operations ![]() The ST1 Cargo and Cargo Refrigeration are specialized models for logistics and delivery businesses by equipping the chassis cab, which is composed of the chassis (vehicle body) and cab (passenger compartment), with a general cargo compartment and a refrigerated cargo compartment, respectively. Hyundai has reflected many specifications tailored to the logistics and delivery business, from design to convenience and safety, including ¡ã safe and practical design, ¡ã specifications optimized for logistics vehicles, and ¡ã functions specialized for logistics vehicles. The vehicle's design is designed to be safe and practical for the logistics business. The front of the vehicle reflects a semi-bonnet type design that is strong in collision safety, and black-colored protectors are applied to areas that are often scratched, such as the front and rear bumpers, to protect the vehicle. Sliding doors are applied to the side of the cargo area, and twin swing doors that maximize the sense of openness are applied to the rear. In addition, an electric locking system has been applied to both the side and rear doors, allowing the cargo area doors to be opened and locked electrically like a passenger car door rather than using a latch. In particular, the rear twin swing doors are locked at 90 degrees when opened, and can be opened and locked at 258 degrees using a door locking device to improve the convenience of loading and unloading. The cargo freezer is highly insulated with new insulation that reduces thermal conductivity, and the floor of the freezer compartment is made of aluminum to prevent corrosion and slipping. Securing driving range per charge considering daily delivery distances ![]() Hyundai developed the third-generation platform of the passenger internal combustion engine into an electric vehicle platform that is lowered to facilitate cargo loading, which is reflected in the ST1. As a result, the ST1 Cargo and Cargo Refrigeration are optimized for logistics and delivery operations. Both vehicles are equipped with a 76.1 kWh battery. The range per charge is 317 kilometers for the Cargo and 298 kilometers for the Cargo Refrigeration, which is enough for a full day of deliveries on a single charge. In addition, the ultra-fast charging system (350 kW) can charge the battery from 10% to 80% of its capacity in 20 minutes. The ST1 Cargo and Cargo Refrigerated have the same maximum motor power of 160 kW and maximum motor torque of 350 Nm, with an electricity consumption of 3.6 km/kWh for the Cargo and 3.4 km/kWh for the Cargo Refrigerated. The ST1 Cargo is 5,625 mm long, 2,015 mm wide, and has a ground clearance of 2,230 mm, making it easy to enter underground parking lots. Both models also have a low load height (495 mm) and step height (380 mm) for easy loading and unloading. The cargo bay interior height is 1,700 mm, allowing those working in the cargo bay to comfortably load and unload without having to bend at the waist, and the cargo bay has a larger interior width than competing models, resulting in a larger cargo capacity of 8.3 cubic meters. The cargo area is 2,642 mm long and 1,810 mm wide. The cargo compartment is 1,608 mm high, 2,562 mm long, 1,750 mm wide, and has a cargo capacity of 7.2 cubic meters. To ensure a comfortable ride, Hyundai applied high-strength subframe members to the front wheels, sound-absorbing materials to the dashboard, door trims, and headlining, and double-laminated acoustic glass to the windshield and first-row doors to create a quiet interior. In addition, the rear wheel HRS (Hydraulic Rebound Stopper) allows the shock absorber to absorb the noise and shock generated when the shock absorber is stretched, and the R-MDPS (Rack type-Motor Driven Power Steering) enables stable and smooth handling. Application of specialized specifications for logistics vehicles such as door opening warning and refrigerator control ![]() Hyundai has applied various specifications specialized for logistics vehicles to enhance customer satisfaction. The Cargo Rear Collision Warning System is equipped with four parking warning ultrasonic sensors at the top of the rear of the cargo box, which notifies the driver through the cluster screen and a warning sound when a collision with a nearby object is expected when reversing at low speeds, making parking convenient and safe. On cargo models, Cargo Door Open Driving Alert protects the cargo in the cargo bed by alerting the driver via the cluster screen and audible warning if the driver attempts to drive with the cargo door open. Smart Drive Ready is a system that automatically turns the vehicle on and off without the driver having to press the ignition button by determining whether the seat sensor, belt is fastened and the door is open. However, the cargo freezer can only be turned on automatically to preserve the freshness of goods. Smart Walk Away allows the driver to set the cargo power sliding doors to automatically close and lock when the driver walks away from the vehicle with the smart key. Cargo refrigeration is equipped with a freezer controller that allows the freezer to be controlled from the infotainment system. The freezer controller works with the refrigeration application on the infotainment screen, allowing you to view the freezer temperature from the driver's seat and control it, including turning it on and off and setting the temperature. There is also a cargo temperature deviation warning function, which alerts you via the cluster screen and an audible warning if the freezer deviates from the set temperature. Hyundai has also designed the Cargo Refrigeration's freezer to work with the vehicle's high-voltage battery, reducing the need to charge a separate battery for the freezer. Other features include the latest passenger car-level convenience and safety features. Cloud-based navigation provides a wealth of information for EV drivers, including nearby EV charging stations, estimated battery level at arrival, and range. It also features a Split View menu that allows the driver to see what's happening behind the vehicle, improving rearward visibility. In addition, it is equipped with advanced safety features and driving assistance functions such as forward collision prevention assist, smart cruise control, lane departure assist, and blind spot assist to provide drivers with a safe and comfortable driving experience. The ST1 is priced at KRW 59,800 ($50,000) for Cargo ¡ã Smart and KRW 63,360 ($60,000) for Premium, KRW 68,815 ($60,000) for Cargo Frozen ¡ã Smart and KRW 71,195 ($70,000) for Premium. <Copyright ¨Ï Monthly Logistics Magazine (www.ulogistics.co.kr) All rights reserved>
